Our favorite architect in Panama, Hildegard Vasquez, stopped by the office today. Lief was hoping to persuade her to work with him out at Los Islotes. Alas, Hildegard explained that she just doesn’t have the time.
“I’m busier than ever with projects in Casco Viejo,” she said. “It’s exciting…all the renovation work that’s in process right now. Exciting…and exhausting. I can’t keep up with all the activity in this part of the city…”
If Panama City is Miami…Casco Viejo is South Beach. Prices in this old town have risen dramatically in the past three years (and stand now at about US$2,000 per renovated square meter).
