"Kathleen, I think your math is a little off. You said recently, 'Here [in Medellin] you're looking at US$1,000 to US$1,500 resale (sometimes furnished) and US$1,500 to US$2,000 new."

"If that is truly the price of apartments in that city, I will take a bunch! Unless you forgot the 'per-square-meter' reference?"

-- David S., Costa Rica

No problem, David. I can pick up six or seven apartments for you. Lief and I are thinking about taking a dozen.

Yikes.

In fact, as you point out, I somehow left out the "per-square-meter" phrase in each reference.

To clarify, in Medellin right now, you're looking at US$1,000 to US$1,500 per square meter to purchase resale and US$1,500 to US$2,000 per square meter to buy new.

"Kathleen, your article about getting a second passport is interesting and generally accurate. One small quibble, however. Any citizen of an E.U. country can live in any E.U. country (all 27) and work in 26 of them. The one exception is Malta. To work in Malta, you need a work permit from the Maltese government. I am not sure how the government of Malta negotiated this, but it was a condition that they insisted upon, probably because Malta is so small. Cheers."
