Travel Discounts And Real Estate Bargains In Honduras

"I leave for Honduras in two days, Kathleen, for my next scouting trip," writes Correspondent for the region Michael Paladin.

"Honduras' Tourist Bureau has been making a big push here in Antigua and in Guatemala City. Copan, in particular, that perfect little city near the Guatemalan border, was here in force, all the hoteliers begging for visitors. 'The border is safe,' they assured everyone...'there are no armed forces, no disturbances...and we're offering a 30% discount on everything through September.'

"The latest news from this country, coming as it has in the wake of the worldwide recession, has devastated the local tourist trade. It's almost as bad as after Hurricane Mitch.

"I suspect there is likewise a further softening in real estate prices, even more than I reported last May. I'll send field reports from the road..."
