Panama Inaugurates New President Ricardo Martinelli
"The official act of inaugurating our new President
Martinelli was scheduled to commence this morning at 11 at
the convention center ATLAPA," reports Panama Circle Members
Liaison Marion de Mena, "however, the ceremony was postponed
and had to begin a little later because the 71 diputados
had to elect the new President of the Asamblea first. 'Popy'
Varela (the brother of the new vice president) was elected
Assembly President with 44 votes.
"Ten presidents
from other countries are in the country for the event,
including Alvaro Uribe from Colombia, Felipe Calderón from
Mexico, Oscar Arias from Costa Rica, and Leonel Fernandez
from the Dominican Republic. Also here are two
representatives from Cuba and the prince of Spain.
"Not here are Daniel Ortega from Nicaragua and Hugo Chavez
from Venezuela.
"The inaugural celebration tonight is
being staged at the Stadium Roberto Duran. It's a big party,
open to everyone. You don't need an invitation to attend,
and it's free. I think my son will attend..."
