Panama’s New President Martinelli Making Waves

"I love our new president," exclaimed Panama Circle Members Liaison Marion de Mena when she arrived in the office this morning. "Did you see the news yesterday? This man, I mean, he is getting things done.

"You know this developer Figali? He had a concession from the government to build a marina at the Amador Causeway. But he overstepped the terms of the contract and took twice as much land as his concession had allowed for. The former president told him to stop, but Figali continued. He even erected a metal fence around the area so no one could really see what he was up to.

"Well, yesterday, President Martinelli, in jeans and a work shirt, went to the construction site himself and with his own hands tore down the metal fence and erected a sign saying, 'Property Of The State.'

"Then he posted police guards. 'Whoever comes here, whether it is Figali or anyone else,' President Martinelli said, 'put him in prison. Scoundrels will not tell us what to do.'"
