"Tell Lucy she's right on regarding Languedoc. The guy insisting it costs 60 to 100 smackers a head for lunch is delusional. Of course, France is more expensive than some places, but the prices you pay relate to the excellence you enjoy. And many affordable options are available for the taking. Plus, the natives are polite, and the ambiance and landscape are breathtaking. Vive la France."

Merida is hot. Hotter than Panama City. Uncomfortably, even unbearably hot.

It's a colonial city, but it doesn't have the feel of a colonial city. It feels like any other city this size (population about 800,000). If you're looking for colonial charm, consider Morelia.
