Don Ellers has been buying, renovating, and re-selling foreclosures and depressed properties in Long Island, New York, since 1985. Even during his career as an ironworker, Don was always involved in real estate, his second trade. Finally, Don retired from ironworking and focused full-time on real estate investing.
When the market in New York spiked, in the 1990s, Don began looking outside the box for other, especially emerging markets. His scouting took him to Colombia, Mexico, Panama, Nicaragua, and, most recently, the coast of Venezuela.
Don is currently building a buyers' brokers business in Venezuela that will offer real estate investment tours to take the buyer through every step from search through closing. As Don explains, “Years ago, the Venezuelan government ran a marketing campaign with the tag line, ‘Venezuela, The Most Closely Guarded Secret in the Caribbean.’ It still is.”
