The 48 Best Places In The World To Reside (Plus The Easiest Second Passports)
The Ultimate Guide For The Retiree, The Expat, The Investor, And The Entrepreneur

Dear Live and Invest Overseas Reader,

Freedom... security... special benefits... a reduced cost of living… a new life… a new start… a better retirement… a grand adventure…

These are all great reasons to be thinking about living or retiring in another country.

A new life overseas can come with big upsides, from tax advantages and exemptions, to discounts and savings on everything from travel and meals out to medical care and prescription drugs, from more safety and better privacy to great weather and a whole new circle of friends… new neighbors, a new community, a new future…

This isn’t rhetoric. This is just the start of the benefits of seeking out a new life in a new country.

However, The Trouble With Some Paradises...

Is that they make it difficult for foreign residents and retirees to enjoy what they have to offer. The simple truth is, not every country welcomes foreign retirees or expats.

What is your dream? Whatever it is, there's a place in the world where you can find it... and afford it...
right now...

On the other hand, some countries make it easier than others. And some roll out the welcome mat, offering benefits, discounts, and other perks that can be very exciting. Some countries, in fact, right now, are working hard to woo you. They're competing to get your attention!

This is why, as you progress in your thinking as to where in the world you’d like to launch the new life you’re dreaming about, I strongly recommend that you consider all your best options. Start with the life you want to create for yourself, then look at all the countries where that life might be possible. Consider and compare the legal requirements and, very important, the advantages and the benefits of foreign resident status in each one.

Then choose the country where you can live the life you want for as long as you want, enjoying the many benefits and privileges of being a foreign resident.

That’s freedom. That’s peace of mind.

An American residing abroad could live 100% tax-free. Depending on your situation, you could owe no tax in the United States… and, depending where you choose to reside overseas, you could owe no tax in that country either.

As I said, this can get very interesting… and exciting.

As a resident retiree overseas, you could also enjoy discounts on medical care and prescription drugs...

You could be exempted from import duty on your personal belongings and household goods... your car... perhaps even a new car every several years...

You could save money on everything from the purchase of your dream retirement home on the ocean to dinner out and in-country airfares...

You could even acquire a second passport.

This is all completely legal and safe. More than that, it's smart. Right now, it’s smarter than it’s ever been.

The secret to all this, to realizing all the benefits and advantages I’ve been naming and to taking control of your life and your future, is establishing residency in another country.

Being a resident of another country—and especially carrying a second passport—can open so many doors for you. Depending on where you branch out, you can find yourself rewarded with privileges like...

  • A lower tax bill—so you get to keep more of your hard-earned income and savings...

  • The freedom to hold a bank account in another country where an American citizen would not be welcome to do so (unfortunately, in the current climate, the list of countries where this is the case is growing longer each month)...

  • The liberty to cross more international boundaries (and, in some places, to avoid the high reciprocity fees that are imposed on Americans—right now, for example, U.S. citizens must pay a US$160 fee, based on reciprocity, to obtain a tourist visa to land on Brazilian soil.

  • Not being tied to a single economy. If things turn sour in one of your homes, you can comfortably weather the storm in another...

  • The opportunity to work or set up business in another country. (Without an EU passport, for example, good luck, fellow American, trying to find a job in Europe.)...
All This Begs The Million-Dollar Question: Where?

Where should you think about establishing residency and perhaps obtaining a second citizenship and passport?

How do you find out which country (or countries) make the most sense given your situation? As a resident of which country will you have the freedom to live, work, and play as you wish?

Looking at the question in the broadest geographic sense, you have 180+ choices for places where you could establish residency and, perhaps, consider obtaining a second passport. Again, trying to choose among the options can set your head spinning.

There’s no shortage of information on these options available on the Internet. Some of it comes at no small cost… some is free… but can you trust it?

Before I go much further, I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Lief Simon. I’ve been researching the world’s best residency and second citizenship options for more than 25 years. I’ve established residency for myself and my family in Ireland and in Panama, and I’ve acquired second (Irish) passports for myself and my family, too.

Over the past decades, I’ve also worked with hundreds of others, to help them to consider and to act on their best options for foreign residency and second citizenship. I understand these opportunities not only theoretically, but from real life experience. This is not the case for most “experts” who write and recommend on these important topics. And I can tell you that the reality of how these things work can be quite different from how they are represented to work by “official” sources.

How then are you to navigate the process of achieving these critical objectives?

You could take the approach I’ve taken… which has included extensive research and travel, meeting with the world’s leading experts, and investing in top counsel in key jurisdictions. But, remember, it has taken me more than 25 years to get to where I am now, and time is not on your side here.

So I’d like to help simplify things for you.

While there are 180+ countries in the world, not all of them are appealing as places to establish residency and not all of them offer the opportunity for naturalization and a second passport.

Looking at the world map in this context, 48 countries stand out, including:

  • Six places where you could work your way to citizenship in as little as three years (five to eight years is more common around the globe)...

  • Some of the world’s top banking havens where Americans are still welcome to open an account and enjoy privacy…

  • A place that welcomes foreign residents with open arms and special benefits for retirees—and that also offers a developed infrastructure, a low cost of living, and overall a great quality of life...

  • Places of political and economic stability—where you can enjoy greater freedom than you do right now and for a much lower day-to-day cost...

  • Ideal places to start your own business, however big or small, with a friendly tax regime and special incentives for foreign investors...

  • Even places to live tax-free (even if you’re an American)...

I’ll tell you all about these opportunities, and more, in my new comprehensive resource, my Passport To Freedom: The World’s Top Havens For Residency, Citizenship, And A Second Passport program.

"Thank you for the immediate info without the bull."

--Tom F., Canada

This is a complete guide to establishing residency and/or obtaining citizenship in the world’s top jurisdictions—all researched and vetted firsthand either by myself or one of my trusted colleagues and advisors. In each case, again, we’re speaking from real-world, not theoretical experience.

You see, in many cases, you’ll find that the process you go through in real life can be very different from what you read on the web (and that includes what you’ll see on the websites of “specialists” and attorneys dedicated to immigration law).

The good news is that the process can be a lot easier than represented on government or other websites. Often it comes down to who you know. Having the right contacts on your side and understanding the nuances of how the process works in a particular country can really help your case and speed things up. In this all-new resource, I share my trusted and personal contacts with you. And I speak straight, as I always do, giving you the real, inside story on how this all works.

A second passport expands horizons and fosters opportunity. It allows you to live, work, and invest more freely…

My aim in creating Passport To Freedom: The World’s Top Havens For Residency, Citizenship, And A Second Passport is to simplify, clarify, and filter. In it, I present you all the world’s top residency and second passport options right now. I compare and contrast each one, showing you the pluses and the minuses, the benefits and the downsides in each case, with the intent of saving you all the time it’d take you to try to do this kind of comparative analysis on your own. You’ll be able to strike many options off the list straight away… and that’s a big plus. You’ll know where doesn’t likely make sense for you, so that you can focus instead on where does.

Then, once you’ve identified the countries that make most sense given your personal circumstances, I walk you through the steps involved, the requirements for qualifying, and the forms and fees you’ll face as you work to process your application.

I assure you, this isn’t some quick hot-list of havens I’ve put together after a few months of research. This is the culmination of more than 25 years not only of researching these topics, but of living them.

He’s never done anything to break U.S. law—or the law of any other jurisdiction either, as far as he knows. As much as he loves spending time overseas, he likes to be able to return to the United States to visit friends and family. His aim is to expand his options, never to cut any off. And, if you follow his lead, you'll be able to come and go as you please, as well.

Over the last 25 years living and doing business around the world, Lief has built a network of reliable and expert contacts he trusts—attorneys, bankers, tax consultants, and other advisors, both Stateside and in the jurisdictions where he spends time and money. These are the people who keep Lief up-to-date on important changes—as they happen. And, it’s with their ongoing counsel—coupled with his personal experience of living, investing, and doing business around the world—that Lief has been able to compile this one-of-a-kind program, Passport To Freedom: The World’s Top Havens For Residency, Citizenship, And A Second Passport.

The World’s Quickest Passports
(Are Usually Also The Most Costly)

You don’t have to be a millionaire to take up the idea of establishing foreign residency or second citizenship. In today’s world, this is not an idea of the jet-set (if it ever was).

Yes, the quickest routes to second citizenship are costly. If you have the funds, you could buy economic citizenship in one of the two countries currently offering these programs (both of which are detailed in full in my new program). Going this route, you’d be presented with a passport pretty much straightaway. Flag planted. Box checked.

But not everybody has that option... or wants to commit so much of their personal assets to a single economy. That’s why the very good news is that you have many other choices for how to approach this.

More Affordable And Very Appealing Options
For The Entrepreneur

One very good option can be to invest in real estate in a country or to start a business there. A number of very appealing places grant residency this way… residency that can lead to citizenship and a second passport. In one sunny, sandy jurisdiction, for example, you can get a passport in as little as six months by investing in a business there.

The World’s Best Residency Program Today

In May 2012, Panama launched what amounts to the world’s best residency program. It could amount to the world’s best residency program in the history of residency programs. This unique program, established by Executive Order, means that, if you hold a passport to any one of the 50 countries on the list, you, your spouse, your parents, your children under age 18, your children with disabilities, and your children aged 18 to 25 who are single and registered at university can all claim residency in Panama. And not temporary residency requiring a series of renewals, as with most visas, but permanent residency immediately.

Plus: You can also get a work permit.

This is wholly unique. No other residency program anywhere allows for an immediate work permit.

I share complete details for this program, who qualifies, how to qualify, and why you need to act very quickly to take advantage of what I believe is a limited window of opportunity in my new Passport To Freedom: The World’s Top Havens For Residency, Citizenship, And A Second Passport.

The World’s 8 Most Irresistible,
Welcoming Choices For The Retiree
Retire in style and employ a maid,
a gardener, or even a driver…
all on a Social Security budget...

What if your budget is very modest and your agenda quite simple? What if you’re simply searching for a place to enjoy your retirement years, to stretch your retirement nest egg, to reinvent yourself and have a grand adventure at this important stage of life?

Then you’ll be happy to know that there are 8 best choices in this case, places where you could enjoy a far richer lifestyle... for a fraction of your cost of living back home... without worrying about a dwindling nest egg.

As a qualified “retiree resident” in some of the havens I’ll tell you about in Passport To Freedom: The World’s Top Havens For Residency, Citizenship, And A Second Passport, you can:

  • Get a mortgage from a local bank—up to 80% loan-to-value, in some cases…

  • Have your spouse, children, and parents live in the country with you, under the same terms as your “retiree” status (in other words, a couple could reside in this haven but be required to meet the income requirement only once)…

  • Hold a part-time job (up to 20 hours a week for those over the age of 50) or have a local business…

  • Pay tax only on locally earned income (any pension, interest, dividend,
etc., income from foreign sources would not be subject to
    local tax)...

  • Qualify for special discounts on services from health care and health insurance... to airfares and public transportation... from movie tickets to sporting events... and from doctors’ visits and prescription medications to closing costs on your new condo…

"What A Wonderful And Amazing World"

"You have provided the education necessary for me to open my eyes and overcome 'border blindness.' What a wonderful and amazing world there is out there. Now I'm discovering it, thanks to you."

--Bill N., United States

Note, though, that you don’t have to be a “retiree”—not in any official sense, at least—to take advantage of the many benefits of residency in another country. No matter the kind of visa you qualify for, in certain places you could:

  • Significantly reduce your overall tax burden… even to zero...

  • Lower your day-to-day costs of living, perhaps dramatically...

  • Enjoy the perfect climate—whatever that means for you, from year-round spring-like temperatures to year-round sunshine or four gentle seasons…

  • Break from the fast-pace, 9-5 culture of home... and live the good life at your own pace... spending time on the things you really enjoy doing...

And that’s only to start. By arming yourself with a second passport, you could:

  • Be free to live or work in any one of 28 countries (by qualifying for an EU passport)…

  • Enjoy visa-free travel to over 130 countries—saving you time and money when you travel…

  • Escape the reciprocity fees imposed on Americans by some countries…

  • Meet with less suspicion in certain parts of the world. Free from the stigma that a U.S. passport can mean, you could travel under the radar in places where Americans are generally treated with suspicion…

  • Enjoy greater privacy. The built-in technology of your U.S. passport means it has the power to be tracked everywhere you go. Not that you’re planning to do anything you shouldn’t do when you travel... but it’s nice not to feel constantly monitored... and to experience free travel as it once was...
You Don’t Have To Stop Being A U.S. Citizen
(And, No, This Is Not Illegal)

When I broach this whole foreign residency/second citizenship topic in conversation, depending who I’m speaking with, I’m sometimes met with raised eyebrows. While what I’m talking about—both obtaining the right to spend extended time in a foreign country and a second citizenship and passport—is entirely legal, images of spy films, double identities, and tax evasion seem to come to some folks’ minds.

"Thank you for all of this ongoing information. You are a lifeline to Americans wanting out right now."

--Peggy D., United States

That’s not what this is about. I’ll admit that carrying a second passport (legally, in your own name) has a certain romance to it. And earning income or holding assets in a foreign country can lower your overall tax burden. That’s a big advantage. But I’m not hiding anything... and that’s not what I’m recommending you do either. You’ll still report to Uncle Sam what you (assuming you’re a U.S. person) are meant to report to Uncle Sam.

Another reason some people shoot the idea down of foreign residency or a second passport straightaway is because they believe it’d require them to give up their U.S. citizenship. Allow me to clarify and set the record straight:

This simply is not the case.

In the case of establishing residency in another country, this is not an issue. Your status as a U.S. citizen (if you carry a blue passport with a gold eagle on the cover) is wholly unaffected.

"What I admire is your honest, tell-it-like-it-is approach. A lot of people have been hurt by nothing but glowing reports about offshore living from various sources. Your honest, direct approach is a real service."

--Arlean K., United States

It is important to note on this topic that a handful of countries do require you to renounce your U.S. citizenship in order to be naturalized on their soil. In my new program, I detail which countries these are and how to make sure you’re fully compliant if these are second citizenships you’re interested in pursuing.

However, those things are exceptions. If remaining a fully fledged protégée of Uncle Sam is important to you, then you simply wouldn’t pursue second citizenship options in those places. Turn to attractive options elsewhere. Simple.

Of course, you need to understand these rules before you commit to spending time in any foreign country. You don’t want to find out, later, down the line, that you’ve been wasting your time and money pursuing a residency or citizenship program that won’t allow you to realize your ultimate goals… or that, worse, creates a problem situation for you.

I address all these nuances, walking you through each residency and citizenship option, country by country, jurisdiction by jurisdiction, from start to finish, clarifying all the benefits and, as well, all the potential downsides, in my new Passport To Freedom: The World’s Top Havens For Residency, Citizenship, And A Second Passport program. And, as I’ve explained, I do this based not on research or theoretical understanding of how these programs work, but from real-world, firsthand experience, either mine or that of associates I trust, that has extended now over more than 25 years. I know from this long experience that the process of applying and qualifying for foreign residency or a second passport anywhere is almost never what it’s represented to be on paper.

On The Other Hand… Don’t Mind Parting Ways
With Your U.S. Passport?
This Facebook billionaire potentially saved hundreds of millions of dollars by renouncing his U.S. citizenship….

Back in 2012, Eduardo Saverin famously renounced his U.S. citizenship. The young Facebook billionaire became a legal resident of Singapore, saving himself tens of millions in income tax and far more in estate tax.

Singapore does not impose an estate tax.

Saverin had a heck of a lot to lose, far more than any of us will ever have to worry about. Still, it suits some people to make this legal break. In 2009, 742 Americans renounced their U.S. citizenship—an all-time high at the time. Just one year later, that figure had more than doubled. In 2012, nearly 2,000 Americans took this step, and in 2015, the number jumped 560% from the 2009 high, with more than 4,300 Americans renouncing. In 2017, the number is estimated to be around 6,800—nearly a 25% increase over 2016’s number of about 5,500. Of course, not all of these have billions of dollars at stake. Sometimes, this step is taken for more personal reasons.

Today, invasion of privacy, airport security pat-downs, GPS surveillance, confiscation, brainwashing, intimidation, and various legal traps are part of our daily lives. Certainly, they exist to varying levels in other parts of the world, but I can’t help be bothered by the extremes every time I travel back home to the United States. Somehow, the “Land of the Free” has become the “Land of Red Alert,” putting us all under constant suspicion.

"The Time To Take Action Is Now"

"It is time for us all to think about diversifying out of the States, before it consumes us. Keep doing what you're doing… you are saving lives in the U.S. (well, at least one for sure). Thank you."

--Ray S., United States

Personally, I haven’t renounced my U.S. citizenship, but I can appreciate the benefits. Especially when you consider the potential savings in tax and the chance to regain some personal privacy. In Passport To Freedom: The World’s Top Havens For Residency, Citizenship, And A Second Passport, therefore, I cover this important and timely topic in full, detailing for you not only the process but also the thinking that should go into make the decision to relinquish your U.S. citizenship.

Are You Ready To Exercise Your Right To Freedom?

I hope I haven’t made you paranoid about being a U.S. citizen. That’s not my intention at all. On the other hand, I do hope that, if you’ve read this far, you—like me—appreciate the limitations surrounding a life fully dependent on the United States.

It is from that perspective that I have created this new resource. I don’t offer this program to fuel paranoia or despair. Quite the contrary. I offer this resource to give hope and to provide options and solutions.

Hope, options, solutions, and practical know-how, all the nuts and bolts you need (and that you can trust) to take action for yourself and your family now.

In our age, in this climate, reliable, actionable, how-to recommendations for how to take control of your life, your investments, your assets, your business, and your family’s future… well, I’d say it’d be hard to put a price tag on that. And that, it is not coloring the issue to say, is what we’re talking about.

Thinking more pragmatically, we’re also talking about 25 years of research, travel, attorneys’ fees, processing fees… and countless hours of consultation with the world’s premier experts in these topics. What is all that worth?

Who could say? I can tell you, though, that if you were to go off on your own to try now to research, understand, and vet every one of these 48 countries and their respective residency and citizenship options on your own, you’d be looking at months or years of effort and tens of thousands of dollars in travel and legal fees.

Don’t worry. I’m not pricing this new resource accordingly. I want you to have this information. I know that you need it. I think you know that you need it, too.

That’s why, after some back and forth with me, my marketing team has agreed to price the complete bundle of resources at just US$370.

Further, they have also agreed, for a limited time, to make the complete program available at a special price of just US$149, saving you 60% off the retail price.

So here’s the deal: You have a window of opportunity right now to access the most comprehensive and reliable guide to the world’s top residency and citizenship programs for much less than the cost of a single meeting with a single attorney.

This special discounted price is available for the next 24 hours only...
