“Kathleen, an article in yesterday’s Washington Post reported on a recent ranking of 80 countries assessing the best places to be born. I was somewhat surprised to see Ecuador rank near the bottom, supposedly based on ‘backsliding on political rights.’ This placed them behind the likes of China, Egypt, and Iran!
“So it was a relief to read David Morrill’s informative note about Ecuador. I’ll take the report of someone on the ground over a remote analyst anytime. David’s comments (and your frequent reports) square more with my memories of a summer internship spent in Ecuador decades ago—though the politics back then were far crazier than they are today! Thanks for sharing David’s report.”
