Portugal appeared to be more laid-back, and we felt comfortable with their bilingualism (most spoke English well). The regions in Portugal we loved were the Algarve, Lisbon, and Porto. Since we would be relocating to Europe from January to April the farther north would mean cooler average temperatures. What are the emerging areas in Portugal, specifically in the Algarve?”

My favorite spot on Portugal’s Algarve coast is Lagos. This charming seaside city offers a lively square, a busy harbor, centuries of history, loads of great restaurants, an almost unbelievably low cost of living, and very friendly inhabitants. Lief and I were so taken with Lagos during our visit last month that we’ve invested in a small apartment just off the main square.
