There are indeed places where you can live in Ecuador on less than US$700 per month…and most Ecuadorians do so. But it’s important to remember that life in Ecuador comes with no lower-income “safety nets” such as Medicare, Medicaid, or supplemental nutrition programs, among others…programs that you can’t use outside the United States. So when calculating your budget, be sure to factor that in.
