The Cost Of Living In Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic

“Kathleen, Kaitlin, welcome to DR. Last year my husband and I took your advice and visited every town on the northern coast and finally fell in love with Las Terrenas. Second trip we bought two first-floor condos, side-by-side in a small community one block from the beach. One condo we use as a part-time residence, and one we rent out.

“Everything went smoothly with the purchases. We had a great local real estate agent and lawyer. We still have no car, but we shop in town and ride the motor coaches. Our complex has a secure parking lot, and eventually we will buy a local golf-cart type vehicle.

“We live fine out of small local bank accounts, eating out often, and spending 1,000 pesos per week (about US$22) for groceries. What we make on the rented condo pays for our HOA fees and electric bill, so we are living basically free.”

What a great strategy—to buy two condos, one to live in and one to rent out. Congratulations.
