Early Morning Safaris In Liwa, Kenya

“Kathleen, an evocative article your piece on Kenya. I visited Kenya in 1986 and spent two weeks at Nairobi, Liwa Downs, Masai Mara, and places in between and have never forgotten the magic of the plains and the animals.

“At Liwa we were woken at 6:30 a.m. for tea and biscuits on the terrace then we went for a horse ride for approximately two hours and arrived somewhere different each day for breakfast. We rode through herds of giraffes, zebras, gazelles, etc., and later we drove to see elephants, lions, warthogs, and several mornings we went to the farm to help with the work there, dipping the sheep, etc.

“I have never forgotten the balloon ride starting at 4 a.m. and the champagne breakfast when we landed out in the peaceful landscape. It is a place to revisit regularly and would have been a beautiful place to settle once upon a time!”
