“Kathleen, life is about choices. You chose to seek your fortune overseas and have been very successful at it. I am happy for you. My husband and I have been living in Baltimore for the past seven years and love it. We have made some very dear friends here. We do not plan to stay here forever and may eventually move to Panama. We are very fond of Boquete, and have made some friends there as well.
“Unlike so many of the people who write to you, we will not be leaving the United States because we think it is a horrible place. All countries have their faults. The problems in the United States receive a lot of attention because it is the most powerful nation in the world, and the one every other country turns to when they get into trouble. If we leave this country, for Panama or some other country, it will be because we are looking for an adventure. My husband and I consider our problems to be our own. We don’t blame them on the U.S. government or anyone else.
“I wish more of your readers realized that life is what you make of it, not where you make it. Most likely, if you live a miserable life in Kansas City, your life will still be miserable in Panama City, Panama.”

“Kathleen, you haven’t even mentioned the McAfee case, the murder accusation against the founder of the Internet security suite, who is now in hiding in Belize claiming the cops want to kill him. Surely it should be referenced…”
