Property Diversification In Panama And Belize

“Kathleen, you and Lief have been writing a lot recently about the fundamental importance of diversification of assets. In terms of currency, would a real estate investment in Belize or Panama qualify as diversification?”

–Weldon W., United States

No, it’s not a diversification of currency, because Panama uses the U.S. dollar and Belize’s dollar is pegged to the U.S. dollar.

That said, an investment in real estate in either of these countries would offer diversification in terms of country, market, and economic risk. These are both property markets we like for 2016 and places where we’re investing further ourselves right now.
