When we arrived in Paris this month, our rental manager Linda told us that the market is up, and we could raise our rent…if we make a few key improvements.
We’re taking the opportunity to give our little apartment a face-lift. We’ve made it a family project. Lief and Harry (our daughter’s boyfriend, staying with us for the month) are repairing plaster cracks and repainting the kitchen, living room, and dining room.
Meantime, Kaitlin and Jackson are trying to sell some pieces of old furniture that I couldn’t bring myself to part with when we left for Panama City two summers ago and that we’ve since kept in storage. Two years later, I wonder why I was so adamant about holding on. Kaitlin and Jackson have listed the pieces on Craig’s List and elsewhere and have had a number of e-mail inquiries. The global virtual marketplace at work!
Me? I’m cleaning up behind everyone, trying to keep up with the dishes and the laundry, sweeping up plaster dust, wiping up paint drips from the parquet…
Lief is looking forward to the increase in rental yield…if only we all survive the effort to that end!
