The World Economic Forum (WEF) have released their tourism index. The global ranking is drawn up every two years.

The WEF used three sub-indexes – Travel &Tourism regulatory framework; Business environment and infrastructure; and Human, cultural, and natural resources.

Panama is one of the biggest climbers, moving 19 places up from 56th to 37th. With this move Panama was described as a “rising star” in international tourism by the WEF.

Switzerland again took first place in the study of tourism. Switzerland is famous for its efficient transport system and excellent customer service.

The WEF explains that the report’s cross-country analysis of the drivers of competitiveness in travel and tourism provides comparative information that is useful in business decision-making and supporting policies of governments wishing to improve their travel and tourism environments.
