Charging for parking in commercial centers, such as mall, is no longer legal in Panama. This newly-approved law is hotly contested, many claiming it’s unconstitutional, including the Panamanian Associated of Business Executives, founded on free market principles. It is possible they see this as another step toward socialization in Panama under President Varela, who implemented food price controls, freezing the cost of over 20 staple grocery items.
