The United Kingdom To Block Online Porn

Denis Foynes – UK Prime Minister David Cameron has announced plans to block access to porn sites on computers, smartphones, and tablets. Cameron believes: “In the balance between freedom and responsibility, we have neglected our responsibility to children.”

He said, “I want to talk about the internet, the impact it is having on the innocence of our children, how online pornography is corroding childhood.

“And how, in the darkest corners of the internet, there are things going on that are a direct danger to our children, and that must be stamped out.

“I’m not making this speech because I want to moralise or scaremonger, but because I feel profoundly as a politician, and as a father, that the time for action has come. This is, quite simply, about how we protect our children and their innocence.”

British internet providers have approved putting adult-content filters on phones, public Wi-Fi networks, and home computers in the coming months. By the end of this year, the filters will become the default setting for anyone setting up broadband Internet service at home, Cameron has stated.

Next year, if someone wants porn in their household, they will have to request it from their provider.

Neighboring Ireland seems likely to follow suit with Minister for Communications, Pat Rabbitte, stating, “I would be quite happy to take up this point about examining whether the initiative announce by Cameron has merit and can be made to work.”
