A Romantic Tryst In Panama
Lief and I escaped this weekend to the beach to celebrate an important anniversary. We’re returning late Sunday from our romantic getaway, so this letter to you today will be blissfully brief.
Following my weekend away with my husband, I’d like to make one heartfelt recommendation: The Bristol Hotel at Buenaventura Resort, on Panama‘s Pacific coast, about two hours outside Panama City, is the best place in this country for a five-star tryst. Nowhere else in Panama compares.
You’re greeted by name upon arrival on the hotel property by a steward who takes your bags and escorts you immediately to your room. No wait at the registration desk, no sign-in required. This is all handled for you, as is your dinner reservation, your next day’s activities, and (if you’re celebrating a special occasion, as we were) a waiting and chilled bottle of champagne.
This ultra-luxe beachfront resort is in the Spanish colonial style and built to high standards, from the traditional clay-tiled roofs to the hand-hewn wooden frames surrounding the windows and doors. The clubhouse is like a grand hacienda. The enormous oceanfront pool is lined on both sides with private, tented groupings of wicker sofas, chairs, and tables. The landscaping is lush, the gardens formal. The restaurant, both the food and the service, is five-star.
As a guest at Buenaventura, you’re pampered and catered to in an elegant, Old World setting with a wide sandy beach and the Pacific Ocean just steps away. We didn’t want to leave, and I’m already trying to think up another important anniversary so we can return sooner rather than later.
