For those who want to live on or near the beach, the DR is the perfect destination. With over 800 miles of beach to lay down your beach towel, the challenge is deciding where you want to do it.
As well as pristine white-sand beaches, palm trees swaying in the tropical breeze, and crystal clear turquoise blue waters, the island also offers lush forest, breathtaking mountains, beautiful waterfalls, and many national parks.
You can buy property without restrictions as a foreigner in the DR. It has an open-door policy, which is one of the reasons it’s so popular with foreigners. It also has no short-term rental restrictions, and it’s easy to find property management. Many condo residences have management in-house and come furnished, making an investment here as turn-key as they come.
The Dominican Republic offers several paths to residency, including user-friendly investor visas. Its retirement visa is known as Residencia por Inversión en Calidad de Jubilado o Pensionado.
The basic requirement is that you receive a monthly pension of about $1,500. This grants a one-year residence permit that can be renewed.
When it comes to health care, the capital, Santo Domingo has four private hospitals with good reputations. Doctors at these hospitals speak English, though you can’t be sure of that in smaller, more rural facilities.
