How Do We Rank The Best Places To Retire?
When sizing up a potential expat haven, there are 14 factors that every retiree needs to consider. We call these our Key Relocation Criteria.
We use our Key Relocation Criteria as a lens to analyze every index haven and assess its suitability for retirees.
The process of deciding what qualifies as an A+, a C, or a D- for each Relocation Criterion is not a perfect science. We do this by giving each haven a letter grade (from A+ to F) across all Relocation Criteria except Climate. We don’t assign grades for Climate because it’s too subjective; everyone’s definition of perfect weather is different.
Taking an aggregate of the 13 letter grades, each haven also receives an overall grade. We use this to create the final ranking and determine the winner of the index.
That, in a nutshell, is how we produce the Overseas Retirement Index every year.
