Ireland… land of saints and scholars, famous for everything from rolling green fields and fiery redheads to pints of the black stuff…
Myths, legends, leprechauns, Riverdance and rebellion. You name it, the Irish probably invented it, did it, or drunk it at some point in history.
Ireland has undergone a lot of change in recent years but many things hold fast including the beauty of the landscape, the friendliness of the locals, and the fact that the craic is indeed, mighty.
Twenty years ago, you could easily buy yourself a home here for well under $100k. Today, you might find one but you’ll need the luck of the Irish to ensure it has a roof.
Ireland’s economic recovery from the 2008 recession began in 2012 and property prices here have been on upward march since 2013. In fact, according to Ireland’s Central Statistics Office, property prices nationally have increased by 160.7% in the past 12 years.
This year, the average residential property sold had a price tag of €426,000 ($497k) so if you are looking for a home here, you will need a pretty healthy budget as well as the nerve for a fast-moving market where demand continues to outstrip supply.
Here’s a look at some homes currently on the market…
In the small village of Carrigallen in Country Leitrim, in the northwest of Ireland, this impressive, three-bedroom, one-bathroom home is on the market for €225,000 ($262k).

The house, which features an open fire, fitted kitchen, and spacious garden is a 20 minute drive from the coastal town of Dungarvan and 20 minutes from the town of Clonmel which has a shopping mall, movie theater, and hospital. It’s on the market for €325,000 ($378k).
