Ask anyone who knows Panama City where to go for a wild night out and they’ll point you in the direction of Calle Uruguay.
These five blocks of bars, clubs, and after-hours spots are the hot heart of Panama City nightlife.
I’m in bed before the real party gets started, but I’ve spent my share of evenings in the neighborhood. It’s home to my favorite restaurants in Panama, including Market, a Panama City institution.
Calle Uruguay is also just back from this city’s best address.
Front-line to the Bay of Panama, the Panama Canal, and the Pacific Ocean to the horizon is Avenida Balboa.
When we bought our apartment here in 2003, much of this oceanfront stretch was un- or under-developed. The Cinta Costera, the six-lane highway that today stretches from Punta Paitilla to Casco Viejo and incorporates bus and bike lanes as well as manicured gardens, parks, and outdoor event spaces, was but a twinkle in the architect’s eye.
Over the years to follow, as we came and went from our apartment at Bayfront, we’d track the day-by-day progress on the impressive city-center reinvention project from our living room window. It was like watching time-lapse photography. Crews worked 7 days a week and 24 hours a day. We’d wake each morning to check the progress made since we’d gone to sleep the night before.
At the same time, the decades-old low-rises of Avenida Balboa were being demolished and replaced by higher and higher high-rise towers… and, eventually, the vacant lots down at the far end near Casco Viejo were, likewise, built up to the sky.
Calle Uruguay, just off to the side, continued to attract locals, tourists, and business travelers in big numbers… but it remained a bit rough around the edges and lacked upscale accommodation options altogether.
Every time I’d return to the neighborhood, I’d wonder how much longer until some savvy developer turned his attention to this prize zone just begging for redevelopment.
Now, Avenida Balboa has run out… and Panama City’s savviest developer and our longtime friend Jose Bern is turning this corner.
Empresas Bern—the company that Jose and his dad Herman built—was the visionary behind Bayfront. In fact, we worked with Jose to design the building. The high-rise was Panama City’s first conceived specifically for the U.S. investor market. It sold out to our readers in a matter of months.
In the intervening two-plus decades, Empresas Bern has built dozens of towers in Panama City, Playa Bonita, the City Beaches area, and Costa del Este. The enterprise is known as the “Brand That Built Panama.” It’s not an exaggeration.
Now Jose’s focus is Calle Uruguay.
And, as with Bayfront all those years ago, he’s offering our readers an exclusive deal.
Plus, very important, the property that Jose has conceived for Calle Uruguay comes with a critical legal loophole.
It’s illegal today to rent an apartment in Panama City short-term (that is, for fewer than 45 days)…
With some exceptions.
A certain number of condos in Jose’s new building on Calle Uruguay will be numbered among those exceptions. Empresas Bern has been able to secure a coveted short-term rental license for some of the units in his latest undertaking.
The property also boasts five-star amenities, including a spectacular pool and solarium, a modern gymnasium, squash courts, a sauna, a spa, and a co-working lounge.
Like everything Bern does, this new property will be top of the market.
You could live here… or you could rent out your investment for up to $19,000 in annual rental income.
Choose to rent, and everything will be taken care of for you by a large, experienced rental management company. All turn-key.
You (or your renters) will have an incredible choice of restaurants and cafés just steps from your front door… with shopping malls and world-class hotels nearby.
For boating enthusiasts, there is a marina right on the other side of Avenue Balboa, just a short walk from your new home.
The private Hospital Paitilla is a 7-minute drive away. As is Royal Center, a plaza of clinics for different specializations just alongside.
The government is investing $44 million to improve the infrastructure of the area, aiming to secure and expand its position as the heart of entertainment in Panama City. I expect these pre-construction condos to see serious appreciation.
Our early-in deal—for Live And Invest Overseas readers only—means you can own one of these luxury condos from just $243,600, secure your unit with just $5,000, and pay the rest in installments.
In addition, Jose and his team have agreed to include the furnishing package, worth thousands, at no additional cost… for the first Live And Invest Overseas readers who invest.
If I didn’t already own at Bayfront, this is where I’d be buying now.
If you’d like to know more, you can reach Jose’s team here.
Until next time,
