Lief and I live a life of comings and goings, fresh starts and fond farewells.
We divide our time between Panama and Paris, moving back and forth between the two points every two or three months.
Today is another ending. We depart Los Islotes for Panama City, where, starting Wednesday, we’ll host this year’s Offshore Wealth Summit.
From Panama City, we’ll head to the States for a few weeks then on to Paris where we’ll reunite after much too long away with our children and grandchildren in time for the holidays.
These repositioning moments are bittersweet. I’m counting down the days until we’re back in Paris… while already beginning to miss all the things I so love about being in residence at Los Islotes. This Veraguas coast is an Eden… a natural paradise over which we continue to layer the comforts of 21st-century living…
After Thanksgiving in Paris and Christmas in Chamonix, we’ll return, early January, as has become our custom, to Panama to reconnect in person with our Live And Invest Overseas and Los Islotes’ teams and jump-start our agendas for the New Year.
Top of that list for 2026 is a special trip way down south to the bottom of the world in the company of a small group of like-minded adventurers.
Late March, Lief and I will be joined by our Private Network members for a few days in the Paris of Latin America (that is, Buenos Aires) followed by a stay in Mendoza. We’re coming to town in time for the annual grape harvest.
It’s an experience we’ve tried to find time to fit into our schedules for years. Finally, 2026 is the chance.
The grape harvest is quite an event in this part of the world, and our Private Network group will have a front-row seat. In fact, we’ll be in residence at a friend’s vineyard, where Lief and I are invested.
Two years ago, La Morada Vineyard hosted a harvest festival that has become the talk of the Argentine wine world. The whole of the Uco Valley transforms into a party for the now annual La Morada Food & Wine Fest.
This year’s celebration of the fruit of the vine in Los Chacayes included more than 100 wineries with hundreds of labels, 12 restaurants, including some with Michelin stars, and live music.
The setting is dramatic—La Morada Lodge with the Andes behind and the vineyards all around as far as you can see to the horizon—and the program straightforward. You pay your entry fee and, in return, are given a glass. Then you are free to try all the wines from the more than 100 wineries on hand.
Similarly, you can buy a token then go on a tour of the gourmet world… without leaving the Uco Valley.
It’s a wine-lover’s dream come true.
This year’s event was attended by 1,300 people. Next year, we and our Private Network members will be among them.
What is our Private Network? It’s a small circle of hard-working, smart, successful people who share a wide-open worldview and pride themselves on seizing opportunity at every turn. Spending time and doing business with these like-minded, cross border-thinking guys and gals is, for me, the biggest benefit of the live-and-invest-overseas lifestyle Lief and I embrace.
With our Private Network fellows, we have watched the running of the bulls in Pamplona…
Witnessed the Palio di Siena in Italy…
Followed the Silk Road in far western China…
Continued our Silk Road adventures in Uzbekistan…
And gone Wild West shooting in San Antonio…
Looking further ahead, what other Private Network adventures are we planning?
On our short list is a luxury safari in Africa… further adventures in Asia, next time in Mongolia… a cattle ranch scouting expedition in Paraguay… and expeditions to the Galapagos… Petra… and the world’s oldest city in eastern Turkey…
Life is too short to defer your bucket list. That’s why we’ve resolved to check off at least one adventure every year… and our Private Network of friends are right there alongside us.
These are the kind of travel opportunities you might never hear about from anyone else… let alone have the chance to experience yourself.
Our Private Network community is growing. We’ve added several new members this year. Welcome, all. We look forward to meeting up with you in person… in Mendoza for the great wine harvest in March if not sooner!
Until next time,
