The Location
The vineyard is nestled in the mountains of Kyrenia, which have been famous for their Mediterranean overlook since the Medieval era.
Because of their strategic views of the sea, fortifications were built on these mountains from the 10th to 15th centuries, tall towers and castles dotting the horizon used to keep watch for dangers coming from abroad. You can still visit some of their remains at Saint Hilarion, Buffavento, and Kantara Castles.
Today, the views are no less staggering, though more known for marine life sightings, bird watching, and enjoying boats scoot across the wide blue sea than for potential invaders and pirates.
The Resort

It has been praised throughout Europe ever since. In the 13th century, a “Battle of the Wines” was held by the French King Philip Augustus, and Commandaria won first prize.
