Safety In Troodos, Cyprus

Cyprus has a reputation for being a safe country that enjoys low crime rates. Troodos as a part of this country enjoys the same low crime rates and safe country status.

A peaceful environment is the norm here. You can wander around on your day to day and feel safe. However, we always recommend you exercise basic safety precautions.

In short, always keep your belongings close to you, avoid placing your phone and wallet in your back pocket, and keep your bag in front of you when in crowded areas.

We recommend you stay up to date on any local news and safety recommendations.

Also, avoid wandering around alone at night, lock your home whenever you’re out, don’t wear flashy jewelry or carry large amounts of cash as to avoid attracting unwanted attention.

Health care in Cyprus in general is high quality. However, it’s important to keep in mind that Troodos is a rural area and while health care is certainly available here, it will not be equal to more urban areas.

Troodos, Cyprus, doesn’t have large hospitals or medical centers in the region, but you can find major hospitals in nearby Limassol or Nicosia.

Limassol is about 55 minutes away by car and Nicosia is about one hour and 20 minutes away. You’ll have to travel to these destinations for specialized treatments, emergencies, and surgeries.

Troodos does have health care facilities where you can get basic care such as primary health care, vaccines, general checkups, and minor treatments. And, you’ll also find pharmacies throughout Troodos.

Health Care In Troodos, Cyprus

Pharmacies here sell over-the-counter meds and pharmacists can help you with minor health care concerns and injuries.

Troodos also has emergency services available. These’ll provide assistance and transportation to the nearest appropriate medical facility depending on the severity of the situation.

If you have specific health concerns, do some research, and try to find a medical professional who can provide you with the care you require.

Try to stay up to date on your regular checkups to avoid finding yourself in an emergency.

Visa And Residency Information For Troodos, Cyprus

United States passport holders do not need a visa to enter Cyprus and can remain there for 90 days.

In the south of Cyprus (Limassol), the easiest residency route is the Category F Permit, which is renewable annually, but it’s slow—it can take up to two years to be approved (during this time you can leave the country without penalty).

This is what we commonly refer to as the “self-sufficiency option.” If you can prove an income that will support you in the country, you’ll be given residency.

You don’t need to apply for this visa in advance of arriving in Cyprus, you can simply land in country on your tourist visa and extend it for up to a year while you apply.

This is an immediate permanent residency. However, you may be asked to reprove your qualifications after a few years. So, it is essentially without expiration.

Weather In Troodos, Cyprus

Compared to the warmer coastal areas of the island of Cyprus, Troodos enjoys a mild and pleasant climate.

Summers in Troodos are cooler than lowland areas of Cyprus. The peak summer months are during June, July, and August.

Daytime temperatures typically range from 77°F (25°C) to 86°F (30°C). Summer evenings in Troodos, Cyprus, tend to get cooler.

Fall and Spring in Troodos are colder than in coastal regions due to the higher elevation of the Troodos Mountains.

Fall runs from September to November and Spring from March to May. Both seasons tend to have similar temperatures. Temperatures range from 59°F (15°C) to 77°F (25°C). This is a great time to spend your days outdoors and go sightseeing.

Winters run from December to February. Though generally colder than other areas of Cyprus, it’s still mild in comparison to other European destinations.

Daytime temperatures range from 50°F (10°C) to 59°F (15°C). However, keep in mind that temperatures can drop to 32°F (0°C) to 41°F (5°C) depending on your elevation. Plus, you may experience some rainfall during this season.

In short, the best time of year to visit Troodos in Cyprus are April and November, when you are most likely to experience good weather.
