From the beautiful Irish landscape, with its rocky coastal areas, luscious green hills, tranquil lake lands, and vibrant urban areas, to its rich history filled with ancient myths, legends, invasions, and battles, Ireland has so much to offer. The Irish love their traditions and are proud of their heritage. The people are jovial and enjoy a good joke or gag. Singing, dancing, and enjoying time with friends and family is an important part of the Irish lifestyle. It’s no wonder this is one of the greatest places to retire. If you are seeking a superior quality of life, the Emerald Isle has many options. For those looking to escape to a relaxed lifestyle in a more natural setting, surrounded by lush countryside, it doesn’t get better than Ireland.
In addition to its natural beauty, Ireland has a rich history and heritage; charming, traditional villages; a strong sense of community spirit; and plenty of activities to keep you busy. If you are interested in super low cost of living, Ireland probably won’t appeal. (Look instead to Central America or Asia.)
But if you are into tradition, culture, and exploring a place where past and present seem to merge seamlessly, then Ireland might be just right.
Many countries in the Old World extend jus sanguinis rights deeper into the bloodline, beyond parents. With these programs (usually referred to as citizenship by descent or ancestry programs), grandparents, great grandparents, and, in some cases, the deepest family roots you can dig up can qualify you for citizenship.
Ireland recognizes these far-flung sons and daughters with one of the best ancestral citizenship programs around.
If any of your parents or grandparents were born in Ireland, congratulations, you’re entitled to Irish citizenship and an EU passport.
All you have to do is enter your birth into the Register of Foreign Births and apply for a passport. You may also be eligible through your great-grandparents, but only if your parent became an Irish citizen by descent before your birth.
Ireland is a safe haven that offers a true sense of safety. In fact, Ireland usually ranks within the top ten safest countries in the world (They are currently number 12 in the Global Peace Index).
Ireland has fantastic health care, wherever you go in Ireland, the doctors and nurses are highly trained.

Read moreJames Joyce’s “The Dead” is often praised as the greatest Irish short story ever written. Though I first read the story some years ago, I’ve never heard it talked about in general society. So, I was recently surprised to find its entry on a list of Irish Christmas traditions. According to a national radio station, a “reading of ‘The Dead’” is a top festive pursuit among Irish households. I need to track down this subset of society that quietly celebrates...
